Bittu to give sleepless nights to Bolaria in Amritsar (south)

Amritsar: Veteran local Congress activist, Bhupinder Singh Bittu who has opted to contest as an independent candidate from Amritsar(south) segment against Congress nominee Inderbir Singh Bolaria, may give sleepless nights to the latter.

Miffed over the denial of Congress ticket Bittu filed nomination papers as an independent candidate.

It is worth mentioning that Bittu had also contested Municipal Council elections. As he was very much optimistic of getting the ticket he nursed the segment like a child. However, entry of Inderbir Singh Bolaria, former SAD leader and once close companion of SAD supremo sukhbir Singh Badal, in to Congress spoiled all the calculations.

Congress high command preferred to field Bolaria over Bittu.

Bolaria, a two time SAD MLA from here was known to be a staunch supporter of Sukhbir Singh Badal. Bolaria wields a remarkable influence not only in this segment but in entire holy city. The shifting of a dumping site, falling under this segment is reported to have become a bone of contention between Bolaria and Sukhbir Badal, as a result of which the two came at logger heads. Along with Pargat Singh, a SAD MLA from Jalandhar (cantonment) constituency, Bolaria was also expelled from SAD last year.

The segment assumed so much significance in political circles that Sukhbir Badal did not announced candidate till the last moment from here. Surprisingly out of 94 seats upon which SAD was supposed to field its candidates, the announcement upon 93 other seats was made in time but candidate for this segment was named on Tuesday.

Bolaria who is already facing two stalwarts AAP’s Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar and SAD’s Gurpartap Singh Tikka, will also have to lock horns with independent candidate, Bhupinder Singh Bittu, who too is reported to have great influence among the voters of this segment. Bittu is poised to tilt the scales in favour of any other candidate and thus spoil the prospects of Bolaria, who otherwise was considered to be a front runner.
