Maur blast victims to be awarded `36.50 lakh compensation: DC

Bathinda:The Deputy Commissioner Bathinda Ghanshyam Thori on Thursday said that deceased and injured victims of the January 31 bomb blast at Maur are being awarded compensation of Rs 36.50 lakh.

Giving this information here on Thursday, Thori stated that six people died in the incident, three sustained critical injuries, one suffered 40 per cent burns and is stable, while the rest 10 have been discharged from hospital after treatment. The families of deceased Ashok Kumar, Barkha Rani, Harpal Palli, Saurab Singla, Ripandeep Singh and Jap Simran Singh will be given Rs 5 lakh each compensation.

Similarly, the injured survivors Jaskaran Singh, Amrik Singh, Ankush, Rocky Garg, Darshan Singh, Rajiv, Mani Mittal, D Ram Babu, Tejinder Pal, Ashu, Himanshu, Rahul and Lakj Raj are being awarded Rs 50,000 compensation each.

Thori said that since all the victims are from poor socio-economic background, it was strongly pleaded that they be given compensation at the earliest.

After taking approval from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Punjab government has released compensation amount to the Deputy Commissioner office, which will further be transferred to the office of SDM Maur. Also, as per the instructions of ECI the payment has to be made by the government officials. The issue will not be politicised and no political functionary will be involved in the disbursal procedure.
