Modi accorded Amritsar status of ‘smart city’:Shah

Amritsar: National president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Amit Shah, on Monday stated that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who took the initiative for according the holy city of Amritsar, the status of ‘smart city’, which had already earned recognition as a heritage city of the country. He claimed that Punjab, the land of five rivers, had always contributed its share to the national food bowl, however, the state, being on the border of Pakistan, always remained at the receiving end and was made to bear the brunt, may it be during the turbulent times of a war or war-like situation.

Shah was here to address an election rally in favour of Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, who is SAD-BJP’s joint candidate for the Amritsar Lok Sabha by-election. He asserted that just a couple of days back, Congress had named Capt Amarinder Singh its chief ministerial face for Punjab, however, Amarinder was not liked even by the leaders of Punjab Congress.
