Round-the-clock vigil outside strongrooms: AAP

Amritsar:To ensure that no attempt to distort the details in electronic voting machines (EVMs) does take place by some vested interests in order to affect the outcome of battle of ballot, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided to camp outside the strongrooms where these EVMs have been stored until March 11, the day counting of votes is to take place.

Stating this here on Wednesday, AAP’s Punjab unit vice president Sarbjit Singh Gumtala disclosed that the high command of the party has issued instructions to in-charges of all the 13 zones of the state to have round-the-clock vigil outside the strongrooms of every constituency in order to ensure that any “vested interest” does not make a deliberate attempt to make any kind of mischief which could result in distortion of the details. Gumtala further stated that AAP’s top brass is of the opinion that party activists should place their tents outside every strongroom and report for their duty there turn by turn, round-the-clock.

According to Gumtala, AAP’s state convener Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi and senior leader H S Phoolka have issued necessary instructions to all the zonal in-charges and the necessary communication to this effect has been forwarded through a letter. Through the communication, zonal in-charges have been asked to divide the party activists of their respective regions into three categories and every group should offer its services for eight hour shift. “Thus, the activists of the party would be in a position to discharge their duties conveniently and will not feel exerted,” AAP’s state vice president remarked.

It may, however, be added here that it had come to the notice of party leaders that eight unidentified persons had intruded in the strong room, constituted in the multipurpose hall of Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) in Ludhiana, housing EVMs of Gill constituency (reserve) and even tried to distort the EVMs stored there. The matter has already been brought to the notice of Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi.
