Zora Singh Mann’s younger son to join BJP today

Bathinda: Seven years after Shiromani Akali Dal ignored its three-time MP Zora Singh Mann to field Sher Singh Ghubaya as its MP nominee in 2009, Mann family has now assumed significant political importance.
As Mann senior had passed away in 2010, few days back, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal fielded his elder son Vardev Singh ‘Noni’ Mann from Guruharsahai assembly constituency. While Noni is hectically busy in mustering support from the voters of his constituency, his younger brother Bobby Mann is all set to switch his loyalty from Akali Dal to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
If all moves well, Bobby will join the BJP in the presence of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh during his Fazilka visit today. Singh is expected to visit Punjab to attend the BJP’s Kisan Morcha rally at Fazilka.
Sources in the BJP informed that Bobby also eyes on the party ticket from Abohar assembly segment as the BJP’s senior leader Vijya Lakshmi Bhadu could get just 9,200 votes out of 1.15 lakh total polled. While Congress nominee Sunil Kumar Jakhar had bagged 55,613 votes, an independent candidate Shiv Lal Doda managed to stand runner up with getting 45,825 votes.
Doda, as claimed, had an outside support from Akali Dal workers but this time he is in jail for being accused in a state-rocking Bhim Tank murder case.
The BJP is also not much willing to accommodate the former MLA Ram Kumar’s family despite their claim over the ticket. Ram Kumar had won in 1997 but after he too suffered defeat.
“I am joining the BJP on Sunday but the allotment of ticket is the prerogative of the party high command,” said Bobby Mann. On being asked about jumping from SAD to BJP, Mann said,“In Punjab both parties contest in alliance so the colour of flag hardly matters.”
Anyways, the path doesn’t seem straight for Mann as another BJP leader Sandeep Rinwa is also seeking ticket from Abohar.Further, the BJP insiders are expecting former Congress MLA from Fazilka also in the process of finalising things to switch loyalty to BJP. Rinwa is these days upset with his party for making Akali MP Sher Singh Ghubaya’s son Davinder Singh join the Congress party. Davinder recently joined the party in the presence of PPCC chief Captain Amarinder Singh.
It’s expected that the Congress may project Davinder Singh Ghubaya, all due to the sizeable vote bank of his Rai Sikh community, to contest from Fazilka seat with a justification that cadre needed new face as Rinwa has lost the battle thrice out of the five chances given to him in the past.
However, Rinwa, when contacted, sounded not in a hurry to jump out of the boat. He said: “No doubt I am upset with the joining of Ghubaya’s son supplemented with the reports of his eye on Fazilka seat but it doesn’t mean that I will give up. If the party wants to win the seat, the leadership can’t take wrong decision.”
