Closed-door BJP meeting today to discuss Bihar poll debacle

The Bharatiya Janata Party has convened a meeting of its parliamentary board, its highest decision-making body, on Monday to discuss the humiliating defeat at the hands of Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad in Bihar.

“A Parliamentary Board meeting has been called at 12 noon. We will look into the reasons behind the defeat and its scale,” a party functionary said.

Meanwhile, Union home minister Rajnath Singh drove to the RSS’s Jhandewalan office on Sunday morning to meet the outfit’s chief Mohan Bhagwat. Sources claimed the Bihar verdict came up for discussion in a 40-minute-long meeting between the two.

BJP chief Amit Shah, who was confident of a victory and of forming the Bihar government, held a closed-door meeting with Union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad, JP Nadda, Dharmendra Pradhan, and party functionaries like Bhupendra Yadav to take stock of the assembly elections result.“We accept the mandate of people. We congratulate Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav. We all expect him (Nitish) to work for Bihar’s progress with honesty,” Prasad told reporters.

Asked whether Bhagwat’s comment on a rethink on reservation led to BJP’s loss, he said, “Absolutely not.” “We will analyse the poll results and the reasons in detail,” he added.
