Punjab Governor inaugurates PU International Hostel

Chandigarh:The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, VP Singh Badnore along with Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher inaugurated Panjab University (PU)’s International Hostel at Sector 25 campus on Sunday.

The hostel has been named after the renowned mathematician, Prof Sarvadaman Chowla, who was also a part of the Punjab University at Lahore. The international hostel is first hostel that meets international standard amenities at PU campus.

Recalling her days at PU days PU Alumna Kirron Kher said that the life at PU was ‘a full and a complete life’. Once my dear Professor Balwant Gargi went away from here, there was really no occasion or desire to come to campus, it was strange as the best years of my life were spent in PU Campus, she added. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Grover welcomed the guests at the Prof Sarvadaman Chowla International hostel. Former PU Vice Chancellor Prof R P Bambah shared his experiences with Prof Sarvadaman Chowla as his student. Former PU Dean University Instructions Prof A K Bhandari, Dean International Students Prof Deepti Gupta also spoke on the occasion.

On this occasion, Badnore also launched the oral history project and the website. Prof Rajesh Kochhar informed about the oral history project and the website. Oral history is now increasingly being recognised the world over as an essential complement to the official history. “We hope that the formal launch of the website would help us contact older former students and employees and their family members to preserve for posterity their recollections and impressions as also photographs, documents etc”, he added.
