Nurses block Patiala-Nabha road for three hours

Patiala: The striking nurses belonging to the Government Rajindra Hospital and Dr Khushdeva Singh TB Hospital lifted the road blockade on Patiala-Nabha road late Friday evening only after recieving a written assurance by the SDM. SDM Poonam Syal Grewal wrote an assurance for getting their demands implemented along with the issuance of the notification too by November 7.

Earlier they blocked the road around 2 pm which caused inconvenience to the people and keeping in view the harassment caused to the people the civil administration send the SDM to resolve the issue.

After getting the written assurance from the SDM the agitating nurses remove the blockade and also left the banks of the Bhakra Main Line Canal (BML) on Nabha road and again went back to Government Rajindra Hospital and sat there on the protest dharna in front of the main OPD.

It may be mentioned here that the striking nurses on Thursday moved from the Government Rajindra Hospital and sat on the banks of the Bhakra Main Line Canal (BML) on the Patiala-Nabha road around 2 pm and started protesting.Though the police as well as the civil administration tried to pursue them, but in vain because of which they spent the night there. The administration has made elaborate security arrangements, along with this the divers have been put on alert and have been stationed near the banks of canal to check any mishap.

Karamjit Kaur Aulakh, president of the striking nurses stated that now they will wait till November 7 as per the written assurance given by the SDM and if the notification was issued regarding the regularisation of their contractual services and also the installment of 33 DA credited into their accounts then its ok otherwise they will again intensify their ongoing agitation. She said that now they will spend nights at the protest site in hospital complex itself.
