Factionalism in BJP comes to the fore, three supporters of Sampla booked

Jalandhar: Factionalism in Punjab BJP came to the fore late on Thursday night, after supporters of sitting Phagwara MLA Som Parkash opened front against his bête noire BJP Punjab President Vijay Sampla’s men for allegedly attacking a BJP worker.

Phagwara based woman BJP leader and councillor Nitu Duggal alleged that police was not registering FIR against Sampla’s men for allegedly attacking her husband Ashok Duggal. Nitu alleged that Sampla’s supporters attacked her husband with sharp edged weapons. After learning about the incident, Phagwara candidate Som Parkash came out in the support of this group and sat on dharna outside Satnampura police station demanding justice.

, the police booked former Phagwara Municipal councilor Gurdeep Singh Deepa, Nitin Chadda, Vivek Chadda and 14 others under section 307, 323, 324 and 148 of the IPC.

Notably, groupism in BJP Punjab unit, particularly Phagwara came out in the open during the recently held Assembly Elections 2017. Sampla was opposed to the candidature of former bureucrat Som Parkash from Phagwara.

Interestingly, Sampla kept opposing but the BJP high command gave ticket to Som Parkash from Phagwara (reserve) assembly seat. No sooner the BJP announced Som Parkash as its candidate, rumors of Sampla resigning against this decision kept doing the round.

It was learnt that Sampla was miffed over party ignoring his suggestion for Phagwara seat. However, later, Sampla had refuted the allegations as a mere rumor by his opponents.
