Post-Trump govt, Indo-Americans fear visiting India, claims NAPA

Jalandhar: The US Based North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) body said that the Indian American community was wary of travelling to India for vacations, as they fear they might not be allowed enter US after their return.

In a press release Satnam Singh Chahal, the Executive Director of NAPA said that fear was looming large on the Punjabis settled in the US post President Donald Trump’s government took reins of the country with stringent laws.

“Many among the Indian American community were now wary of travelling to India, as they feared their return to the US”, he said.

Chahal said even his two close relatives who are US Citizens and bought their air tickets earlier now postponed their travel plan due to the fear of present situation at US airports.

Chahal said that it was unfortunate that for the first time in US history, several NRIs were putting on hold their personal and official visits to India, as they feel it might be difficult to re-enter. “Some of those travelling from India on business or leisure too were either cancelling their travel plans or putting them on hold for the time being to see how the situation unfolds”, he mentioned.
