Punjab has lost glory and number one tag, says Anand Sharma

Mohali: Former Union Minister and Congress leader Anand Sharma stated that Punjab which was once known for its prosperity and fame has now turned into a pale shadow of past. The land of Guru Nanak Dev, which gave countless warriors who fought for the pride and respect of their land are now plagued with problems like drugs, un-employment, and farmers’ suicide.

Sharma was addressing a poll rally in support of Balbir Sidhu, Congress candidate from Mohali at Phase 11 here on Sunday evening. He further said that the state which was at number 1 position on all around development between 2002-2007, is now no more in top 10. The 23,000 industries have been closed down in Punjab and at present the state has around 75-lakh unemployed people. .

Going by current support and response which Congress is getting in Punjab now, it is surely going to form next government with thumping majority in state, claimed Sharma.

Speaking during occasion, Balbir Sidhu said that the proposed development work for Mohali which have either been delayed for want of state government support or any other reasons will be completed on fast track after the formation of Congress government at state.

Creating ample employment opportunities to youth in state will be prime focus of Congress government. For this we will try to revive the industrial growth in state which is missing from the past one decade, maintained Sidhu.
