Employees agitation flares up in Punjabi University

Patiala: The ongoing agitation of the employees on Friday further flared up in the Punjabi University as the protesting employees locked the main gate of the varsity and thus disrupted all activities and organised a massive protest demonstration as well. Also, the fast unto death started on Thursday by the President of the Employees welfare association, Rajinder Raju entered into its second day on Friday.

Even though the university authorities including the registrar and the Dean, Academic affairs tried to pacify the agitating employees but of no use as they are not ready to compromise over the issue of the reemployed teachers and demanded immediate termination of their services. Whereas the university authorities claimed that the salary for the month of January has been credited into the accounts of the employees on Friday but the agitating employees not put ear to it and adamant over their demand of immediate removal of the reemployed teachers.

The agitated employees went to the all the department and forced the employees to join the stir even they put lock on the gates of the main Library of the university as well.The protestors also burn effigy of the varsity authorities.

While organising the protest even these employees also blocked the Patiala-Chandigarh road and thus disrupted the vehicular traffic over this stretch of the road because of which the daily commuters faced many hardship[s in reaching to their destinations.Keeping in view the situation police came there and after making many efforts the blocked was removed.

Interestingly, the Vice-Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh decided to stay away from the varsity as he was in New Delhi since February 10 and in his absence registrar along with the Dean, Academic affairs trying to run the varsity affairs.
