Probe panel submits report in babies-trafficking case

Rajpura: A three-member probe panel of doctors submitted its report to the Senior Medical Officer (SMO) of the AP Jain Civil Hospital here after completing the probe on Thursday. The report has been submiitted in the wake of investigating the case related to the racket that used to deal in new born babies trafficking. The SMO of the hospital has decided to submit the probe panel’s report to the police department for further action and interrogation.

When contacted over it, the SMO, Dr Ranjit Singh affirmed that the panel comprising Dr H K S Chawla (Ortho), Dr B S Khosa (Medicine) and Dr Lalit Garg, after investigating thoroughly into the matter have come forward with their report that is pinting towards a woman namely, Sher Kaur, a resident of village Bhogla, and another Man Raj Kumar, a resident of the Ludhiana, as main accused, He said that it is the CCTV camera’s footage that helped in scrutinising the clues and find these people. He said that he is going to submit the report to the Civil Surgeon at Patiala as well to the police for further action.

On the other hand when contacted the Civil Surgeon, Dr Subodh Gupta accepted that he is fully aware of the racket case. He said that only after seeing the report, he will approach the police to take further action against those found guilty in this case.

Interestingly the SMO, Dr Ranjit Singh, who has ordered probe of this racket is frequently recieving threat calls as a result of which he has asked for his transfer from here because of the pressure exerted by the accused. Even though he failed to divulge the contents of the probe but its learnt that four staff members of the hospital and two-three persons from the outside were involved in this and now all these persons were trying to hush up the matter by hook and crook.

Dr Ranjit Singh further added that the persons behind this racket are trying to threaten him but he never succumbed to such tactics and brought everything in the notice of the police.

The issue came to limelight when a pregnant woman got admitted in the hospital for the delivery and gave birth to a baby boy. But the woman was discharged along with the newly born child the same day. Though this is a routine affair but it got attention as the news about the sale of said baby boy spread and it reached up to the SMO, Dr Ranjit Singh as well.
