First list of Contenders announced by AAP and BJP for Ludhiana MC Elections

Yesterday,first list of contenders for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Election had beendeclared by Punjab units of BJP and AAP.TheState Election Committee of Punjab BJP Wednesday met under the chairmanship of statepresident, Vijay Sampla to confirm the names of contenders. The meeting wasbeing attended by national secretary Tarun Chugh, former state presidents MadanMohan Mittal, Manoranjan Kalia, Ashwani Sharma and Kamal Sharma, state generalsecretaries Kewal Kumar and Jiwan Gupta, state secretary Vineet Joshi and statepresident Mahila Morcha Mona Jaiswal.


Vineet Joshi while sharing the list of contenderssaid – “There are total 32 contenders out of which 16 female and 7 SC contendersare in the first list and the second list would also be released soon.”


In the meantime, Bhagwant Mann (StatePresident – AAP) and Aman Arora (Co-President – AAP) released the names of 31candidates of the party who will stand in the MC elections. The party is doingthese elections in association with the Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) who holds a stronggrip in Ludhiana. Bhagwant Mann and Aman Arora said that a joint selectioncommittee including LIP leaders and the Deputy Leader of Opposition, SarvjitKaur Manuke had chosen the applicants.


“The first list has been set by the boardafter speaking to local leaders as well as volunteers on the ground. The namesof the remaining applicants will also be released shortly” - the two leaderssaid in a statement. AAP will be fighting on 39 seats while the remaining 56will be contested by LIP.

The procedure offiling nominations will begin on 08th Feb. Councilors will getelected for 95 wards by approximately 10.50 lakh electorates. The nominationprocess will end up on 13 February and the inspection of the papers will bedone on February 15. Submission can be reserved on February 16 and symbols willbe allotted on February 18 as per the sources.
